Sand Calculator

Working out how much sand to order is simple once you know your area and depth: length × width × depth gives cubic metres, and multiplying by the sand’s bulk density gives tonnes. Use the calculator below for the four sands Australians order most — it adds a 10% allowance for compaction and wastage so you don’t come up short.

How to use the sand calculator

  • Measure your area and enter the length, width and depth in metres (use the Imperial toggle for feet).
  • Pick your sand type — each uses its typical Australian bulk density, e.g. paver bedding sand at 1.7 t/m³.
  • Leave the 10% extra box ticked to cover compaction and wastage, then hit Calculate for your volume, weight and bag count.

FAQs

How many tonnes are in a cubic metre of sand?

How deep should sand be under pavers?

Should I order extra?
Yes — the calculator adds 10% by default to cover compaction, spillage and uneven ground.
