WriteFlux is a small, independent website building free, accurate material calculators for Australian DIYers and landscapers.
We started WriteFlux for a simple reason: working out how much gravel, soil or mulch a job needs shouldn’t require a spreadsheet, a phone call and a guess. Our calculators do one thing well — they turn your measurements into a clear materials estimate you can actually order.
How we build our calculators
Every WriteFlux calculator is built on published formulas and clearly stated assumptions. Nothing is a black box:
- Published formulas — the exact maths behind every result is explained on our How Our Calculators Work page.
- Disclosed densities — the bulk density figures we use for each material are published in full, so you can check our workings.
- Honest defaults — where an assumption is needed, such as our 10% wastage allowance, we say so and explain why.
If a number doesn’t look right, we want to hear about it. Accuracy is the whole point of this site.
What we stand for
- Free, no sign-ups — every calculator is free to use, with no accounts and no paywalls.
- Plain language — no jargon, no corporate fluff.
- Built for Australia — metric units, Australian material names and densities that reflect local conditions.
Thanks for stopping by. If our calculators save you a second trip to the landscape yard, we’ve done our job.
